From 1 January 2027, every Queensland home needs hard-wired, photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarms, one in every bedroom and in every hallway connecting bedrooms to the rest of the house. We install legislation-compliant systems with a 10-year warranty, and issue you a compliance certificate the same day.
Signs you need smoke alarms
- Your alarms still have replaceable 9V batteries
- Your home has fewer than one alarm per bedroom
- Your alarms are over 10 years old (check the back)
- You're selling, leasing or renovating the home
- Existing alarms are ionisation type (older homes)
What's included with every Voltech smoke alarms job
- Photoelectric, hard-wired, 10-year sealed lithium back-up alarms
- Wirelessly interconnected, one goes off, they all go off
- One in every bedroom, hallway and storey, per QLD legislation
- Compliance certificate for sale or lease
- Test, label and demonstration before we leave
Pricing, what you can expect
Most domestic smoke alarms jobs in Brisbane fall in a known range, and we always put a fixed price on the quote before we start. Where we can give you a ballpark up-front, here it is, but we'll still come and look at the job properly before we commit to a number.
- Typical Voltech price starts at $175.
- Quote is free during business hours, no call-out fee for standard quotes.
- Fixed-price written quote, valid for 30 days.
- Card or bank-transfer payment accepted on the day.
Suburbs we work in for smoke alarms
We do smoke alarms work daily across south-east Brisbane, from Carina, Carindale and Camp Hill in the inner-east through to Wynnum and Manly on the bay. See the full service area.
Why Voltech?
We're a Camp Hill-based, owner-operated electrical business. John holds the QLD electrical contractor's licence, carries $20M public liability insurance, and is on every single job we do. There's no call centre, no rotating crew of contractors, and no hidden charges. We'd rather quote one job properly than ten jobs with surprises.
Frequently asked questions
What does QLD smoke alarm legislation actually require?
From 1 Jan 2027 every QLD home, owner-occupied, sold or leased, needs photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarms in every bedroom, every hallway connecting bedrooms to the rest of the house, and at least one on every other storey. We install to that spec by default.
Do I need a sparky or can I DIY?
Hard-wired alarms must be installed by a licensed electrician in QLD. Replacement of like-for-like 9V battery alarms can be DIY, but we strongly recommend going hard-wired and interconnected.
How many do I need?
A typical 3-bed Brisbane home needs 4 to 5 alarms (3 bedrooms + hallway + living area). We do a free walk-through and quote, no obligation.
